Weird mapped drive issue

Situation:
AD network, Server 2003
client - windows xpsp2
User accounts have home path mapped (profile tab, user account). Four sites,
two sites the user is able to see the drive mapped to
\\server\folder\%username%. When logging on to computers in two other sites,
they only see the drive mapped to the parent folder (i.e. \\server\folder).
The users have traverse folder rights to the parent folder and full access to
their user folder.
What could be the prevent the mapped drive not completing the path?

Greetings,

Typically it's due to the folder already being on the drive but in a
different format then the server is looking for. An example is this:

Lets say you have a user that has a profile called BobB. In your
\\server\folder you have a folder for Bob with all the current permissions
set called bobb. When you use %username% the server will look for a folder
called BobB, since bobb does not follow the capitalization scheme of BobB,
the server will not find the folder. When it tries to create the folder it
will not be able to since the folder already exist. So instead it goes as
far as it knows how and maps Bob to \\server\folder.

There are two ways you can fix this type of problem. Either manually finish
his home directory link to \\server\folder\bobb or deleted the bobb folder
(make sure you are not deleting any important information inside the folder)
and let Windows re-create the folder by using the \\server\folder\%username%
command again.

Hope this helps,

All folders are unique. I have verified this. The folder is connecting when
typing the UNC path into RUN.
Am currently checking DC replication as well.

Did you try to delete the folder and allow Windows to recreate?

Let us know your findings,

Thanks for the help.
I have approx. 7500 user folders in the parent folder. I have created test
accounts which I have deleted and recreated. Same result. Two of the four
sites are showing issues connecting to the mapped user folder.
BTW: all users currently are connecting via WAN links from all 4 sites to a
server on the main site.
The server in question is running 2003 R2 and auto quotas are being applied
to each user folder.
Have been looking at KB898060 and installed the fix but did not see any
difference.

Are the users that are having problems the ones connecting over a WAN?

Sorry for not responding but we had some other issues going on that needed
immediate attention.
Not all users are connecting over a WAN link. I have also moved a share
(same setup) to another server (W2k3 not R2) and have the same situation.

Finally found the solution and it worked:
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.win2000.active_directory/browse_thread/thread/35b7093da8f148d4/1b11b605fcd018cb?lnk=st&q=Group+Policy%2C+'Connect +home+directory+to+root+of+share+properties'&rnum= 5&hl=en#1b11b605fcd018cb

It is a timing issue that supposedly is turned off when users have home
directories applied but obviously not. Had to set a GPO to turn off the logon
optimization!
