Some cable companies monitor the mac address and some don't. The reason why is because it looks like just your PC is connected to the modem. Some cable companies, (Like mine.) frown on routers / multiple users and like to charge for additional IP addresses. So if you put your mac / host info into the router, the router will emulate your pc and that's all they'll see. Some cable companies are just now getting hip to end user's routers and block anything that isn't supposed to be. Of course you can call your cable company. I'm sure they'd love to hear about your setup and be more than helpful.

Hey, I'm working a few months now with the Linksys WRT54G with no problems at all, until this very evening. I am not able to get a correct IP adres from my Host (Telenet). I get an
IP
but it's not a good and working one. When I connect directly, so not
using
my router, I get a good IP and do have internet. What have I done allready : Reset of WRT54G Input of the latest firmware Released the IP severall times and always get the same (wrong) IP. I do get (normally) an IP from the host so in the setup I have to choose
for
DHCP. But now I choose static and fill in the IP i Got while connecting
directly
and then it works. What the hell is wrong ?
Have you tried cloning the MAC address of your PC? That is to say, set
the
router's MAC address to the same MAC address as your PC's NIC . -----= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =-----

Why should I do that ? The fact is that when I choose for static IP the thing works, DHCP setting gives the wrong IP given by the provider ??!! Weird. It looks like the Router isn't able to get the right IP. Blackie, There are two PC's connected (normally).
