have 2 PCs networked using 1 adsl connection, both server and client run
XP pro, EZ firewall/Anti-virus and use USRobotics 22mbps cards.
everything works fine until I leave the computers switched on/connected
but don't access the internet for a couple of hours.
on the client my email program (OE) or browser (Opera/IE) stop working
(ie won't connect to the net), even if I close them and reopen, and I
have to reboot.
yet everything on the server works fine...

anyone have any idea why this happens ?

thanks
Les

One or both wireless cards may be set for power saving, hence
dropping the connection after an idle timeout. The connection
should reconnect automatically when you need it again, but bear in
mind that "should" does not always equal "does" ;-)

Suggestions:
1) Check the WLAN card manufacturer's documentation for power
settings.
2) On the client PC, open Network Connections, right-click the
wireless LAN connection and do a Repair.

there aren't any power saving settings

do that every time but it makes no difference

should have mentioned the network is still connected, I can access files
on the server from the client, it's just the net access that fails.

Using Internet Connection Sharing rather than a router? If so, this
can be very flaky.
