Hi
I don't the proper place for this issue. If it is not the
right place, please let me know so I can post it properly.
I have three pc's networked with cat5 cables to an
SMC2804WBR Router. The router is connected to a cable
modem. Routine simultaneous Web connections with all
three systems give one to three second responses in
bringing up web pages. Searches are very fast. Downloads
go up to 350Kbps. No complaints with the web connection.
All systems respond the same for routine web browsing. My
problem is that one of the systems will not bring up
certain web pages, especially those associated with
Microsoft. This includes Microsoft.com as well as the
update and support pages. The problem has worsened in the
past few weeks.
All three systems are using Win 98 SE 4.10.2222A. Two
are OEM and one an upgrade from Win95. Both OEM's use IE
5.5 (5.50.4807.2300 SP2 128 Bit Security + Security
Updates). The upgrade uses IE 6.0 (6.0.2800.1106IS SP1
128 Bit Security + Security Updates). I do not believe
this has anything to do with the problem and use this
differentiation for identification purposes only.
One of the OEM systems is the problem. They are identical
systems with Abit KT7A Raid motherboards. Security and
content settings are identical. I have gone through all
of the steps in KB 241344. Winsock.dll, Wsock32.dll,
Wsock.vxd, Wsock2.vxd and Ws2_32.dll have all been
replaced. TCP/IP has been removed and reinstalled. No
difference. Still have easy Web access, but not to any
Microsoft sites.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jerry
