Hello Group,

Talks with my dedicated server hosting company and an hour on Google have
failed to provide a detailed answer, so I turn to you in my hour of
frustration....

If I have a blank web page that is 1K in size and it gets 10 million hits a
day, how many gigs per month is my hosting company going to bill me? Off the
street rate card is $2 a gig.

The reason I ask a server networking group and not a math group this
question is because a 1K web page doesn't really weigh 1K when the following
HTTP/ TCP overhead is added on:
- request tcp packets
- incoming headers, maybe url params, maybe cookies
- response tcp packets
- response body (1K blank, no images), headers, url params, cookies....
- any additional networking traffic going on for a single request?

How much do the factors above add to the weight of a 1K page? Then is safe
to assume I can take that final weight and do the math to get a monthly
cost?

Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Rick

LOL.. wow... to be honest, in this day and age most people dont concern
themselves with these things anymore. Not when you can find a host that will
give you unlimited bandwidth for the same price. or host it yourself etc...

Then how about for just simple knowledge??? How much overhead is there for a
http request and response. If you think this is trival question then don't
waste either of our time by responding.
