WDS & encryption

I still can't find much information about WDS & whether it works, or not,
with any kind of WEP/WPA.

aiui, it can't work with WEP, but _could_ work with WPA.

I've got a pair of WRT54G V3.x routers. Does _any_ of the third party
software work with WDS and WPA? I've seen a number of people claim that it
_does_ work but none of them seem to have explained how they do it.

What happens when a computer is hardwired to the repeater? Is the repeater
itself being authenticated to the base station? In that case, does a
wireless client of the repeater authenticate to the repeater or the base
station?
