Perhaps this should serve as a warning to all those who are signing up
with a "free broadband" supplier or any other supplier charging less than
the cost of providing the service.

Customers of ISP Euro1net have been cut off. When punters attempt to
connect to the internet, they are redirected to a BT page informing
them their broadband retailer hasn't paid for its IPStream service.

BT's wholesale department confirmed it had suspended Euro1net's
IPStream due to "repeated non-payment". The telco said it was liasing
with Ofcom on the matter, and added that the service could be resumed
if Euro1net pays its bills

See what you mean -- with Sky investing £400m over four years in their
broadband service there might only be a few billion left to pay their
BT bill with.

its not so much the 'free' element of current offers thats so risky
but more the single up-front payment type of deal which E1N (an
E7even) pioneered.
so its looks like one down, and another on its way

However that is probably covered for a user if paid for on a credit card
under the cover for goods and services costing 100 to 30,000 pounds.

In the event of the firm not providing what they promised (12 or 24
months of service), then the user ought to be able to claim remaining
months (ie a portion) back from CC if ISP is unable/unwilling to pay.

Broadband cut off over BT dispute
About 5,500 customers have had their broadband internet service cut off amid a
row between their supplier and BT.
Euro1Net's service has been withdrawn after BT said the company, based in
Ramsgate, Kent, had repeatedly failed to pay its bills.

Some customers had paid hundreds of pounds upfront for a two-year broadband
connection with Euro1Net.

The firm was not available for comment but on its website it said it had "an
issue" with one of its suppliers.

It said it was considering legal moves against BT.
