Went out wardriving the other day and found 36 Wap's can
they see who I am? or just my MAC id in their log?

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Do they know your name and Social
Security Number? Probably not, unless they're really silly. Did they
detect that you were snooping around? It's possible, depending on many
factors, but probably not.

Before I can answer your first question, you have to prove to me that there
is more to you than your MAC address. :-/

I'm not hacking into the systems I am just using WIFI
software to detect wireless networks.

If you do not connect to any of them then they do not know you are
there. BUT if you so much as even TRY and connect you could be caught.

If all you doing is looking at the list if Wifi around
then no it is not a probablem and you are not leaving any thing behind on
their network
it would be the same analogy as listening to a radio station in your car

HOWEVER:
if you start to try and connect, well then various factors need to be
considered
