Sounds like only your wireless is working.
Are you using straight-through cable from the 4port switch to the boxes?
My setup, same router, mix of XP & Linux all sharing.
DSL -----------> router -------------> 3-wired & 1-wireless DHCP,
1-static server
crossover straight through
192.168.1.1 192.168.2.1
