Need a wireless card for my older laptop.
Orinoco Silver or any of it's variants would work fine.
There are probably others.
CANNOT USE CARDBUS. Don't want a broken one.
What, Where, How much?
Thanks, mike

If you've got USB on your older laptop then you might consider the
Linksys WUSB11 which I've got because I got very limited range with the
PCMIA I had.

I'm very satisfied with it, and it gives me very good range (and it has
a *real* aerial - which means that you can play with parabolic
reflectors - if you feel the need).

I should maybe have added that I'm very puzzled about Cardbus and PCMIA
wireless cards.

Virtually all wireless devices seem to use vertical polarisation, but
because of the physical orientation of these wireless cards, aren't they
geared to horizontal polarisation? Surely, to get good communication
shouldn't both ends of a link be using the same polarisation?

check ebay for any lucent/orinoco silver or gold cards. I have both and
they are 16 bit PCMCIA cards.

PCMCIA cards are a compromise with their antennas

There's almost nothing reasonably priced on ebay. The crazies bid it up
over new price then pay $10-$15 more in "shipping". That applies to the
current crop of 802.11b cards on ebay.
