i have 192.168.0.x /24 network. this is the main network. on this
network there are 3 fileservers. these fileservers all have a 10/100
nic and a gigabit nic. between all gigabit nics is a gigabit switch. i
have noticed that no traffic is going throught these gigabit nics when
i do backups from one fileserver to another. can someone help me
accomplish this. they are all windows server 2003 enterprise.

thanks in advance.

We need more information to help. Do you enable both NICs? posting the result of ipconfig /all here may help.

This discussion comes up every now and then. The basic answer is name
resolution.

When the backup software looks for the machine to back up, it will be
using the machines's name. It will go the WINS or DNS to resolve that name
to an IP address. The IP address it gets back will usually be the IP of the
NIC which the machine uses to communicate on the network. And that is the
NIC it will use.

If both NICs IP addresses are registered in DNS or WINS, how you choose
which one use for the backups?
