Want to set up wireless network in house - what do I need?

Forgive the fundemental question but I'm getting conflicting information
from the various vendors.

Got an ntl broadband cable connection coming into our lounge (where the PC
is now).
The PC is to be moved to another room. Rather than recable the house, I
intend to use a wireless link from the lounge (where the modem will remain)
to the new office. I then want to add a laptop to the system. I want to
share the broadband between PC and laptop. Also want to file share between
the two.

Question is, what hardware do I need? I think I'm clear on the PC and laptop
card. What about the 'main box' though. Do I keep my pesent modem, then
connect that to a router or do I have to ditch my modem and get a
modem/router combo?

Finally, the printer will be connected to the PC. Can I print direct from
the laptop or do I have to transfer the file, then print from the PC?

Any advice appreciated. FAQ anywhere?

Thanks - Martin

You need a router/access point combination. modem/routers do exist but only
for DSL connections. You connect your modems ethernet socket to the WAN
socket on the router

Just select the sharing option on the pc, and then add it as a network
printer on the laptop

FWIW, I picked up an HP 5850 inkjet printer a couple of months
ago for $100. Least expensive printer I ever saw with a built-in
RJ45 network interface; in fact, it has built-in wireless, too.
