Watch out everyone, Wanadoo is on the fiddle, I just checked my bank account
and Wanadoo have taken double the monthly subscription out for November, I
have just tried to call wanadoo about it and they claim the accounts
database is down
until Monday 28th November.

Check you bank accounts, I doubt I am the only one.

I also had an amount taken from my account recently and I moved away from
wanadoo last spring. Wanadoo were not that helpful, but my bank were
brilliant. They contacted wanadoo on my behalf and got the same run-around
as I did. Within 24 hours my bank gave me my money back, even though they
were not obliged to as I was originally paying wanadoo by debit card. They
are now pursuing the matter further with wanadoo.

Lesson learnt, I do everything by D/D now, particularly as I am now with
Tiscali (and that is another story to come latter).

The heroes........Royal Bank of Scotland.

Assuming that Wanadoo have taken the money by Direct Debit then invoke
the DD guarantee with *your bank*. Wanadoo have broken the rules
(Your bank will probably tell you it is not their problem, but keep
asking to talk to someone higher in the management chain. Eventually
you will get someone who knows what the DD guarantee is and how to
handle it. *Do not be put off*). The incorrect amount will be
refunded to your account *by the bank*. You ought to inform Wanadoo
that you have invoked the DD guarantee otherwise they may cancel you
service. Wanadoo then can extract the correct amount at a later date,
assuming they have sorted themselves out.

I had the same problem with Tiscali a couple of years ago...

You have no proof that Wanadoo have done this deliberately. It is much more
linkely to be a mistake.

Asking for a DD refund means the DD authority is permanently cancelled so
you need to make sure that you inform Wanado and set up a new payment
method. Depending on their T &C cancelling the DD may be cancelling the
account as well.

If it was paid by direct debit contact your bank and ask them to
refund the errant payment under the terms of the direct debit
guarantee.

Check the direct debit guarantee scheme closely. You will find it only
covers you if a company takes an incorrect amount - it doesn't cover you if
they take more in more than one transaction. The wording will be different
between banks.
I tried claiming back when NTL were helping themselves to more than they
should and having the cheek to say they would pay it back the following
month.
Some companies will make deliberate errors in order to borrow money to tide
them over, then pay it back or leave it to banks to sort.

Phone the bank, cancel your card, they could do it again!
