My server has a dual Intel Pro/100 NIC and worked perfectly under W2K. The
server is the domain controller and Exchange 2003 server as well. 1 port of
the NIC connects to a static IP to a DSL connection and the other connects to
an internal LAN. I performed an inplace upgrade to W2003 standard and it
seemed to work flawlessly. My workstations can always access files on the
server and Exchange. After the upgrade, some matter of minutes or hours go
by and the WAN connection fails without any error being reported. Doing a
simple REPAIR on the connection fixes the problem for a while every single
time. I noticed that the Pro/100 is not certified on W2003 so I disabled the
WAN port on Pro/100 (did not physically remove it) and then installed an
Intel Pro/1000 GT which is certified. The Pro/1000 shows everything is great
and the intel diagnostics show everything working as well but it can't
connect to the Internet at all using the exact same IP setting which worked
on the Pro/100. Does this seem like the situation where I need to remove the
TCP/IP stack and reinstall (as I have seen in similar posts) or does this
seem like something else? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated by
both myself and my 7 year-old son who has been clicking the REPAIR button for
the last 3 days.
