I have just added an old IBM Notebook to my system. It is connected to my
router.
The LAN is fine - I can access the other computers and they can access the
notebook.
I have downloaded from another computer to the IBM so access is working
inwards.
I cannot get IE up. It insists that I have to have a modem and I am stuck.
This is especially annoying in that I had this thing working perfectly last
year.
Help please.

Open Control Panel - Internet Options and go to the Connections tab.

Select the option for "never dial a connection".

Click on Apply and OK as needed to exit.

Good luck

Many thanks Ron.
I had forgotten.
The "never dial a connection" is greyed out, however all problems resolved
once I worked through the Connections tab.
I am a bit out of date on some matters.
Having got this old notebook now working on a wired or WIFI basis I find
Windows Update always fails.
Is this because support has ceased for W98SE.
Again,
Thanks.

Sorry for delay.
Problem resolved: I think I must have had finger trouble.
Many thanks for your interest.
