Is the combination of W98 SE and WPA possible? Do I need extra
software and/or drivers for it?

The Proxim PCI card (ORiNOCO 11a/b/g PCI Card
) comes with it's own client driver that supports WPA, have a look here

If not, you could check out Funk softwares Odyssey Client, supports
98..

You need what is called a wpa supplicant. Depending on your hardware,
the manufacturer of your adapter may have one.
Dlink offers AEGIS and I think Linksys uses an Odyssey supplicant and
I have heard it works with some other card types using the same
chipset. Or there
is Funk Software that makes Odyssey, 30 day free trial then 50 bucks.
