I have two computers connected to a DLink wireless router connected to a
cable modem. One machine is running XP the other W98. Each machine can see
the others files and printers but IE on the 98 machine can't see the
internet. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Fred

re-run the setup wizard on win98 in control panel>internet
options>connections>setup

tell it you are connecting through a LAN. it 'should' get its IP ,DNS from
the router.

post back if no joy

plug the win98 directly into the cable modem ...does it work then ?

what does start>run>winipcfg say your internal IP address is ?

reset your router (usually a button on the front)

can you get your gateway(usually 192.168.1.1) subnet mask , DNS servers and
setup a static IP on the win98 machine? to test
you should be able to get all that right from the router setup(browser
interface)

usually your internal IP would be in the range 192.168.1.0-254

I am having exactly the same problem as Fred. Running XP pro on my main
computer, 98 SE on my laptop. Dlink 614+ Router with main computer and Dlink
650+ Airlink on my laptop. The setup was working fine. I took the laptop to
a Hotel this weekend. I had to go into the Airlink card properties and clear
them out to get it to work at the hotel. I put everything back in when I
came home, Now it won't hook up to the internet again. I reran setup, ran
setup from the disk I created; and the network came back up. It shows
192.168.0.101, and 255.255.255.0. I can 'ping' both of these. But just
can't pull up the internet. The laptop shows up on the network on my main
computer and everything. Anyone know a solution?

try going to control panel>internet settings>programs> "reset web settings"
see if that helps

and you checked your "LAN" settings under 'connections' ?
