W2K3 sp1 unable to file share

I have a W2K3 sp1 server that from time to time (twice last week and once
this week) that will not allow file shares, or remote manage at seeming
random time intervals. During this time where we are unable to do a file
share we are able to ping or vnc into the server.

The firewall is not on and we have changed nic's, Cables and ports/switches
on our network and the problem still comes back. The event logs do not seem
to show any events of interest. So far the only way we can fix the file share
problem is to reboot the server.


My question is, has anyone experienced this before? Does anyone have a
suggestion to help resolve such a problem.

any scheduled tasks ? antivirus (scheduled scan) ?

Is it always at the same time of the day ?

We do have scheduled tasks but as a test today i stopped off the ones that
where running. as far as the AV goes, I don't believe there was a scheduled
scan going on but i will double check that.

The times this event occurs are random. no particular time of the day. It's
failed at various times in the day. twice today so far.

can you install and setup Performance Monitor Wizard ?

It will collect system performance, you may get a memory leak or something
else.

Do you have huge MS Access database (~200M) ? that make a fileserver
becoming a toaster
