Hi,

I have joined the server (w2k3) in the (w2k) domain but it does not show up
in the Network Neighborhood.
The server has 2 nic`s in it.

File and print sharing for ms networks is activated on both adapters.
Netbios over Tcp/Ip is enabled on 1 nic on the other it is disabled.
The windows firewall is disabled.

If i type the unc path (from my workstation) in start/run i can view all
shares from the server and connect to it.

How can i force the server to show up in the Network Neighborhood?

Regards

The server has also an ipsec policy enabled.
The policy is set to Server (Request security).

The second NIC is disabled? If not, then does it have an address
on the same subnet as your first NIC? Open a dos prompt on
the problem server and run net view; What do you see?

The second nic is not disabled.
Only the mark on "Netbios over Tcp/Ip is disabled" on the second nic.
Both nic`s are in the same subnet.
A net view does show all computers that are in the browser list.

Hello,

Thank you for post!

From your post I think the issue could be caused by the dual network cards.
I suggest you perform the following test to isolate the issue.

1. Configure different range of IP address on both NICs. Check the issue.
2. Disable one NIC on the W2k3 server and reboot the computer. Check the
issue.
3. Disjoin and rejoin the server and check the issue.

If the issue persists please verify if there is any related event error in
Event log.

If there is anything that is unclear, please feel free to let me know.

Best Regards,

Jason Tan

Dual NICs on the same subnet without any form of NIC teaming
will cause a conflict. May I ask what you are trying to achieve
with both NICs?

i have disabled the second nic and added the second ip adresse (same subnet)
to the first nic.It didn`t work.
After Reboot the server it didn`t work to.
I can`t disjoint the server from the domain since it is a data server.

Under windows 2000 (bevor we updatet to w2k3) it did work fine with both
nic`s enabled.

It certainly doesn't happen right away. Download the following tool
and run it on the problem server:
NetBIOS Browsing Console
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;818092

I am curious what you thought you accomplished with the second NIC?
Only 1 NIC will be used by default for session establishment on a single
subnet. Dual NICs are commonly used to join two networks.

The second nic is for fault tolerance via round robbin.

i have run the NetBIOS Browsing Console from the server and an agent on an
workstation in the same subnet (we got only one).
I didn`t find the server in the browsing list.
All of the suggested (not-in-missing-subnet-mb.htm) actions does not bring
any effect.
I have stopped the browsing service on the master browser so a new election
can take place.
