I think I messed up when I set up my single server network. I set the
domain name to mydomain.com instead of mydomain.local. I have a hosted
website that uses mydomain.com. I'm not hosting anything on my internal
network - I just need to be able to give them internet access through my
firewall/router. Do I have to demote, rename, and promote my server to do
this or is there an easier way?

Hi,

I understand that the name of the internal domain and the Internet domain
are same. Hence you are unable to access the public web site from internal
network.

Please try this workaround and check if it resolves the issue:

1. Open the local DNS server
2. Add an A record with the hostname 'www' without quotes and provide the
IP address of the Internet name server of your domain.
3. Check if you are able to brose www. <Server name>.com, where <server
name> is your name of the company.
4. Please make sure that you do not miss out the www part while trying to
view the company's public website.

Hope it allows you to connect to your Internet web site from internal
network.

Thank you

Rashmi

It's not a great problem. Many people prefer to run that way. You just
need to make sure that your local machines resolve names to your private
IPs, and outside users resolve to your public IP. This comes up often in the
DNS newsgroup, if you want to have a look in there.
