VPN to Win 2003 server

I am trying to VPN to my server, I get "verifying user name and password" and
then I get a 718 error.

I have a static IP through my ISP (is this important? I realize that, if
dynamic, I could have a different IP every time, but will it cause other
issues?).
I have another server, a W2K server on a different domain, on this network
and I can VPN to this server.
I made sure that I specified the domain before the user name (domain2\user).
There should not be an issue with network traffic or server traffic, so
there must be some other issue.

What services could be not functioning that could cause this issue?
Where are the logs located that could help resolve this issue?

One things comes to mind right away... FIREWALL...
Do you have your wirewall turned on for your windows 2003 server?
If so, turn it off...
If your Server is under a router (firewall) you may want to make sure you
have all the required ports and protocals for VPN mapped (pointing to) your
server.

When I get the message "Verifying user name and password", am I not already
inside the firewall?

Phillip,
These references are for ISA server 2004. Is this included in W2K3 server?
If not, since I can VPN with my W2K server, is this an MS package change?
Thanks for the help!

I don't understand what you are asking. I was only responding to the
question of if you are already on the internal LAN while it is "verifying
username and password".

Oh..Ok.
Yea, I put those there because they answer about half of the question I get
in here, so if people just get the links from my signature in any of my
posts they will have their answer.

Error 718 just means it timed out because it didn't get a reply. So a
firewall block is pretty likely. Can you connect to this server from inside
the firewall (eg from a LAN client machine)?

I have opened port 1743 for VPN traffic on the router's firewall. This
allows me to access my other server (W2K), but I am still having issues with
my W2K3 server. I believe that I have the server setup to accept requests.
I used the RAS setup instructions, the same that I used for the W2K server.
I don't have a 3rd party firewall on the server. I will check today and see
if there is something that I missed.

Thank you.
