Hello,

We have native Windows 2003 domain with 2 DC (Windows 2003 and Windows
2000 Server) and member server (Windows 2000) that works as VPN server.
VPN works fine, all users can connect to our office via VPN, browse
office network, but ... connection is very slow! It's ten times slower
than regular Internet connection. All users and our office have fast
cable Internet. Is it possible to speed up VPN connection? Which
factors, other then Internet link, affect to VPN speed? Our VPN server
is old PIII with just 130 MB RAM. Do you think that upgrade of this
computer will help? Thank you very much for all your replies.

Luba.

It actually would be 1/2 to 1/4 the speed. TV Cable and DSL Lines usualy
have one speed for download and one speed for upload. The VPN will always
run at the slower "upload" speed.

It is dependent on the Line's speed. Also, VPN by its very nature is slower
due to the extra overhead of the encapsulation and decapsulation. Don't
expect "Network Neighborhood" to perform well,...it is a high bandwidth LAN
technology and was not meant to run on slow links.

Thank you very much for your reply. It means there is not much I can do
with the connection speed.

I had to run a 2 mbps DSL before mine between home and work was really very
"usable". That is megabits not kilobits.
