VPN Server Behind DLink Router With One NIC

I had the VPN server working fine behind a Dlink router
with only one NIC, but now it doesn't respond. I saw a
similar subject in this newsgroup, but the answer wasn't
really given. I have one server and a small network.
The server is the DC/DNS/DHCP and would be VPN server. I
understand putting a VPN on the DC isn't recommended, but
I'm in a situation where this has to be done. I have the
correct PPTP ports forwarded on the Dlink, but is there
something else that must be done in RRAS? I agree using
two NICs in this situation could be more complicated.
Does anybody have any suggestions for this scenario?
Thank you.

The error is: Error 800. Unable to establish the VPN
connection. The VPN server may be unreachable, or
security parameters may not be configured properly for
this connection.

It starts to free on the Verifying username and
password. Do you think a VPN connection can work
constantly behind a Dlink router? I'm used to
configuring VPNs behind a Cisco router. Does there need
to be a static route in RRAS? Thank you.

Error 800 just means it can't connect. Could be anything. Set the client
to use PPTP (instead of auto) and see if you get a more informative message.

Ok, I did get the VPN working again behind the Dlink
router. I added a static route in RRAS. My final thing
would be how to keep this working permanently. I
noticied in DHCP that the open ports in RRAS show up as
server.domain.com. The IP address that RRAS got for the
server is 192.168.0.17 and it expires in one week. It
also shows up in DNS. Should I exclude this address from
the range to make the address constant and the VPN
working? I want to make sure the VPN stays working and
any suggestions on this would be great! Thanks for the
help and ideas.
