VPN, router settings?

My laptop, which belongs to my employer, has VPN access software on
it. My ISP doesn't block anything, and my employer has tested his end
but still it wont work. Normal access is OK, I can surf the web etc,
so I know the adsl router is working and so is my LAN, but the VPN
wont authenticate. Is it possible that ther are some settings in my
router that need to be changed? I've had a look in there, there are
squillions of settings, I dont understand any of them.

I dont expect a full answer, I haven't given enough detail, but just
want to know if router settings can affect VPN traffic.

For the record I have an Origo AWR8210

Neal

You may have two options - VPN and VPN NAT. You're router may need the NAT
option. Have you tried this?

Are you saying the initial connection is made, but the authentication
then fails?

If so, then it's likely the router doesn't support VPN pass-through.

Nothing in the manual to say it supports VPN pass-through
http://www.wellgroups.com/wellftp/manual/awr-8200.pdf
Sounds like you need to upgrade your router..
I upgraded to a Netgear DG824 and use it with my company VPN.

Hi,

You don't say what software your employer is using to provide VPN.
Something recent from Cisco or Checkpoint should have no problem
working through a NAT router as they use UDP when necessary.

IME, with Checkpoint Securemote, turning off VPN passthough fixes most
issues as it allows Securemote to fall back to UDP.

Kris.
