I'm running Windows SBS 2003 and am having problems connecting via VPN
I use a moedm router to connect to the internet, all my PC's have static
IP's and my router has a known WAN IP
Server has remote access enabled & mobile users security groups.
The only firewall is in the router and all recommended ports are forwarded.

I can set up a VPN connection from a PC on my local network using the server
local IP and login to the server, but I can not connect using the WAN IP of
the router.
I have tried disabling the router firewall, but that makes no difference.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

What's the VPN error code? Make sure the router is PPTP pass through router.

Finally got a remote client to connect, no thanks to Belkin tech support.
But when connected I can not see any other computers, the cllient is running
Windows Vista 64.

Could this be a security issue?

Thanks

Define what expectation you have that defines "seeing".

VPN only provides a "connection",...that's it,...nothing else,...it is just
a glorified "dialup connection".

If you want name resolution or "network browsing" then you will have to
provide that separately via DNS and WINS.

"Network browsing" will never be dependable,...so face that fact now,...that
is the way it will be. Heck even on my LAN that I have been running for 10
years the Network Browsing is lucky if it shows 2/3rds of the actual
machines that are there whenever I open "Network Places" and the list isn't
even the same from day to day,...and that is directly on the LAN and not
even VPN.

Hi Neil,

I would probably recommend that you firstly disable the Windows Firewall on
the client machine used to connect to the VPN and see what results you get.

Secondly, once connected to the VPN ping one of the static IP addresses you
want to connect to by going to Start > Run> type 'cmd' and type 'ping IP
address'

Thirdly, If you can't ping Its a routing issue, go into cmd again and type

route add -p VPNIP 255.255.255.0 VPN-LAN-IP

I.E
route add -p 192.168.0.230 255.255.255.0 192.168.16.0

Finally make sure you arent running the same IP range at home as you are on
the VPN as this will cause issue.

Hope that helps,

Kris
