VPN - No network protocols were succesfully negotiated

I am having trouble connecting to my Windows 2003 file server through the
internet using VPN.

I have setup VPN on my fileserver, only have one network card, so had to
choose manual setup.

Configured my router to allow pass through to my file server, this seems to
work.

When I try to connect from any other computer (have tried 3 different
computers/locations), at that computer it give an error 733. At the file
server i check the log, and it says "The user CONECRAFT\jmiles connected to
port VPN4-127 has been disconnected because no network protocols were
succesfully negotiated."

Checking all the sources I can find, mostly say to make sure TCP/IP is
installed on both the server and client. From what I can tell, I do have
TCP/IP installed at both.

I'm no expert at this, any help is appreciated, and the more specific
instructions to check the better

Can you connect from a machine on the same LAN as the server? It is
easier to debug locally before you try from a remote location.

Tony,
Sound like your router/firewall is blocking some VPN traffic.
You can test you VPN internally.
On a workstation connected to your local LAN set up a new VPN connection
using the internal IP address of your VPN server.
It should connect, if it does then you will have to look more closely at
your internet router rules.
Have a look at
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro...9982eca10.mspx

Good suggestion.

I have now tried this, from a workstaton on my local LAN, using the internal
IP address of my VPN servers, as suggested.

But I still get the exact same results.

Any further suggestions would be appreciated.

I finally figured out my problem, I am describing here for reference for
anyone else who doesnt know to do this (like i didn't)

From Routing and Remote Access
Right Click "Server Name"(local)
Select Properties
Select IP Tab
Under IP address assignment select "Static Address Pool" and assign a pool
of ip addresses from within the range of the IP addresses available from the
DHCP server.

After doing this I am able to connect.

Thanks to everyone for their replies.
