Hi there

Is there a way to make a user logon to the network using VPN without the
need for expensive software, etc.?

Situation: user at home with laptop decides to work. At the logon screen
they enter the user name and password which would then authenticate with the
server as if they were connected in the office.

No, you don't need expensive software. It is built into many
firewall/router products and is standard in Windows server.

First check the specs of your firewall/router. This is the simplest an
most effective way to do it.

Bill

The only options you get at logon is connect via dialup, what I'd like to do
is connect over the internet. We are just using a standard BT
router/firewall, with additonal firewall software in the DMZ with port
forwarding as required.

To connect via VPN we have used the standard Windows link to IP address and
all works, but we'd like to do this at logon.

If you can connect to the VPN OK, you should be able to use the "logon
using a dialup connection" option to do a domain logon at connection time.
In this context, your VPN connection is a dialup connction.
