VPN to log onto network domain?

I have a network (LAN) with 5 pc plus a linux box running the Primary Domain
Controller (samba)

The current network hardware is a Belkin combined ADSL/4xRouter/Wireless
box.

On the LAN each user can log onto the domain from any PC.

I want to be able to "log on" to the domain from a remote computer. If I
replace the belkin with a ADSL/Wireless Router/VPn box am I right in
thinking that I can connect to the new box from my remote PC. Does the
linksys then assign me a ip address on the local lan? so that it appears
that I am physically connected to the LAN?

Will I then be able to log onto the domain server? - i.e the same as a local
pc.

Which router/modem box would I need? Is it easier to replace the whole
belkin setup? or could an seperate router be added to the exisiting adsl
router?

I have found a safecom router that I think will do the trick? Is this
capable of acting as a secure VPN server? or is there a better alternative?

Does your existing router have VPN passthrough?
If it does then you could easily just setup the pass-through and point it to
the DC with which it would authenticate and allow you access (provided your
permissions are set to allow remote/vpn access)
