the senario is - want to set up a VPN connection between winXP machine( home comp) and win2003-sbs ( office server)

the xp pc is connected to internet using a d-link 4 port ADSL router/modem .

the 2003 server is connected to the internet using a billion 711ce ADSL router/modem.

have planned on setting up a simple VPN dialup connection from winxp computer - and using the Routing and remote Access services on the 2003 server to handle the vpn connection.

Both adsl router/modems claim to allow vpn passthrough for vpn connections.

have noticed the 2003server requires at least two network cards ( interfaces) for configuration of routing and remotes access using vpn.

( from the office end- the 2003 server has one network card and is connected to a switch, which is then connected to the billion router)

*configuring this connection as i have described above - is there any special configuration i have to do at each router/modem?????

will the vpn connection work using the proposed method i have described.

please post specific help- not just general concepts - i need precise steps to take .

Thanks to all that reply!!!!! :-)

make sure the ports are open. quoted from http://www.ChicagoTech.net

Interface(s) for VPN server. If your network doesn't have a router or the
VPN is also a gateway, your computer must have at least two interfaces, one
connecting to the Internet and another connecting to the LAN. If it is
behind a router, you just need one NIC.

Which ports need to be opened for running VPN

A: PPTP VPN uses TCP Port 1723, IP Protocol 47 (GRE); L2TP: UDP Port 1701;
IPSec: Pass IP protocol 50 and 51. Note: 47 is a protocol number and not
TCP port. The protocol name is GRE. It'll make a big difference when
configuring your firewall or router.
