I establish a VPN to my Small Business Server 2000 from my laptop at home
running XP Pro. I want to be able to browse the internet and/or check for
mail on my local POP based outlook client while connected over the VPN. When
I connect via my VPN Net connector however and am able to access data on my
office server (via the VPN connection), I cannot use my local browser. Is
there some configuration I can make to allow me to connect to my office
either automatically or manually so I can still have internet connectivity
while also having my VPN for file access?

I guess I want my cake and eat it also.

What you need sounds like a "split tunneling"
configuration on your VPN server. This allows you to
access the remote network on the end of your VPN tunnel,
AND allows you to access the Internet from your local
machine.

Be warned - split tunneling is inherently unsafe... which
is why your VPN probably has the feature disabled.

Good luck.
