I have got an NT4 domain where I have got a windows 2000
RRAS server installed for VPN. This NT4 domain trusts a
Windows 2003 AD Domain. I am getting an error: event ID
20073, Source: Remote access, "the authentication server
did not respond to authentication request in a timely
fashion", when I try to get authenticated via VPN using
the RRAS server on the nt4 domain, when loggin in using a
w2003 account.

What am I missing? THis works between 2 trusted NT4
domains. Any help much appreciated
Thanks

Do you have a WINS server running? NT4 Domains and 2000 or 20003 Domains
seem to run smoother together when there is a common WINS Server that is
being used by at least all the Domain Controllers involved. It is also good
if all the Domain Controllers use a common Active Directory DNS server.

Yes! I have a common wins server and the rras server on
the nt4 domain is using a common AD DNS server. Do you
reckon that adding for example an lmhosts file on the
RRAS server for the w2k3 domain as a #DOM entry would
help?

There is no point in using "cave-man" technology. The lmhosts file does
nothing that WINS doesn't do and the hosts file does nothing that DNS
doesn't do.

I don't know what to tell you.
