We are trying to setup a W2K3 R2 box for VPN. The end result is always the
same: we can authenticate but cannot do anything, not even ping the server we
are connected to, on the remote network once connected. We have tried
several different configurations and just cannot get this to work. Here is
the basic network info & things we have tired. Any assistance to help
resolve this issue would be welcomed.
OS is W2K3-R2. This is a standalone server and there is no DC. The server
has two NICs. They have a D-Link DI-604 NAT router (DHCP was running here) &
SBC DSL. Their server's LAN IP network is 192.168.0.x.
1) First we tried with only one NIC. We forwarded 1723 through the router
(PPTP pass-thru enabled) to the LAN IP of the server. We were assigning IPs
from a static pool setup in RRAS. You could auth, but not pass traffic to
the remote network.
2) Then we tried using both NICs. We gave the WAN interface a public IP
address and the LAN interface a private IP. We forwarded 1723 through the
router (PPTP pass-thru enabled) to the LAN IP of the server. We were
assigning IPs from a static pool setup in RRAS. Again, you could auth, but
not pass traffic to the remote network.
3) Next we setup DHCP, DNS, & WINS on this server. We kept the two NIC
configuration. Still, could auth, but not pass traffic.
4) Went back to the one NIC setup, still running DHCP, DNS, & WINS on the
server. Still, could auth, but not pass traffic.
I have setup 20 VPN server on either 2000 or 2003 and have NEVER had this
trouble. HELP!!!
Thanks,
Drew
