I run RealVNC on my home network without problems and for my version the
correct port to open is 5900, not 9000.
I don't bother with password and encryption options since my NAT router
keeps the rest of the world at bay and in any case I have limited the scope
of access within the Windows firewall to the LAN only.
I leave RealVNC running as a service on any PC/laptop that I want to control
and that way I can be into it in 2 seconds :-)
