VMware Samba failure - how to fix?

Hi:

I have Win2k pro guest running in VMware 4.5.2 b8848 running on host OS
Suse Linux 9.1. I have host-only and bridged networking set up. I use
the host-only to access files on the Linux host. I run applications in
Win2k under VMware which access the files on Linux. This system has been
working fine for over a year.

Today I can't access the VMware samba server running on Linux. The Win2k
dialog says "incorrect password or unknown username." I used
#vmware-smbpasswd to reset the password just in case, but this didn't
fix it.

Then I set up logging in the /etc/vmware/smb/smb.conf file. This reveals
trouble when I try to access the host VMware-samba server <see log text
at end of message> .

Nothing changed from yesterday to today. It just broke. The bridged
network access from the guest to the net still works. I can also ping
between host and guest host-only network IP addresses.

I re-ran vmware-config.pl to try starting over. No change.

I also deleted the files in /etc/vmware/vmnet1/smb/private, then
restarted vmware services to allow them to be recreated. Then I
recreated and enabled the user samba account using vmware-smbpasswd once
again. Still broke.

After looking at the log below, can anyone suggest what is wrong and how
to correct it?

Thanks for any assistance!
