(None of the pre-built vmmon modules for VMware Workstation is
suitable for your
running kernel. Do you want this program to try to build the vmmon
module for
your system (you need to have a C compiler installed on your system)?
[yes])

when I press Enter

What is the location of the directory of C header files that match

You need to install the Development tools onto your system so use the
"Configure your computer" tool you will need to key in the root password then
select "Software Management", "Look at inatallable software" in left hand box
change option to "Mandriva Linux Choices", under workstation select
"Development" and then select the compilers for C & C++ and all libraries
related to it. If in doubt and you have plenty of disk space you could select
all of them. After this lot installs you should be able to rerun the vmware
install perl script as in your mesage.

You need to install kernel-source. When I compiled VMWare under 2008 for
a client I also had to edit the header files by hand to match the current
kernel (even though I was using kernel-latest and kernel-source-latest).
It has been many weeks since I did this and it is on a non-local system.
I do not recall the exact changes I had to make to get this working and
the log of what I did is on the non-local system. IMO Mandriva screwed up
badly with this.

I did find this information <http://preview.tinyurl.com/2mn92h> about
problems compiling VMWare in the 2008 errata. However, the claim that an
update fixes it did not work for me thus forcing me to edit the header
files by hand. As far as I am aware it is still not fixed even with the
latest kernel-source-latest for 2008. I would be happy to find otherwise.
