2 - It has been running just fine
3 - Today, I am unable to connect to internet
4 - My laptop with wireless connects fine
5 - My wife's desk top with xp connects fine
6 - I've done all of the normal things
a - rebooted
b - made sure all updates were installed
c - shut down and restarted
d - pulled power on both machine and modem

Anyone have suggestions??????

Before we can help we need a bit more info. Open a command window, and do
ipconfig /all and tell us what the ip addresses are (and the default
gateway).

Found the problem, talked with Gateway's Vista expert, it was McAfee
that was blocking my computer from entering the internet. Uninstalled
McAfee and the problem went away, reinstalled McAfee and it all seems
to work fine now. Thanks

Why on easrth are you using a piece of crap like McAfee ? It's only marginally
less worse than Norton !

Actually, I think Vista is a long way from being finished. Brand-new Vista
machine took about 1.5 hours the other night to install the brand-new
printer that they'd bought with it - kept seeing the message "programe not
responding" and then it would continue anyway.

XP does that, and it still isn't finished either, doubt it ever will
be, nor will any revision of Windows.

XP only does it when a program is either truly screwed or taking a seriously
ridiculous amount of time to process, which is very very rare in my
experience. It may not be finished, but it's stable.
