I spent an etire morning trying to get a Vista Home laptop to connect to
a networked printer using the IPP protocol.
Tow different XP machines and a Linux machine worked fine with the IP
address but not Vista, could never find the printer.
Vista had the correct drivers but for some reason could not find the IP
address, I tried various methods and alternatives using IP address:631
and IP address/ipp/ The IP address entered in my browser found my CUPS
Priner server printer list but the printer wizard reported NOT FOUND.
One method actually found the printer, installed Vistas driver but if I
tried to print it went to the queue and then failed. I gave up.
Later in the day I wanted to write down the error messages so that I
could post here, I used the same address but different printer, on
finding the address it asked for drivers but Vista didn't have my HP
MFP listed so, to see the error message I gave it some other HP
driver... It installed and printed perfectly.
Why, who knows, I certainly do not.
Not my Vista machine so I cannot continue to investigate but reading the
numerous problems posted on the net about Vista's network printing
problems I am not surprised.
