I have a 2003 active directory domain that X clients are able to joing
without an issue.

Vista clients, pointing to the same DNS server fail to join due to network
name not being found.

Any ideas?

Someone mentioned something about Vista using Extended DNS queries, but I
can't find any info about it.

Paul,

I have had Vista Business and Ultimate connected to a Windows 2003 r2 server
domain without difficulty. My first thoughts are the usual.

* Vista has TCP/IP installed and set as DHCP (assuming the domain has all of
the proper server settings).

* From a Command prompt in Vista, an IPCONFIG /ALL shows the correct
addressing info.

* From Vista Control Panel / Network and Sharing Center, try running
Diagnose and repair. In my own domain, I have Network Discovery and File
Sharing on, as that is what meets my needs.

* From Control Panel / System, Change Settings, Change, enter the domain
name under Member of. Depending on your configuration, you may be able to
enter just the domain name, or the FQDN may be required. In my domain,
either works just fine. Naturally you need an account and password to allow
joining.

Those are my initial thoughts. They have worked for me all through the beta,
up until now.

Best wishes,
John Baker

Does the Windows 2003 DC have SP2 installed?

If so, there is a known issue that will cause this. Post back if true and
I'll post how to get around it.
