Virtual network device

Hello everyone!

Do virtual network devices exist on Linux? I mean, devices which receive
data from a userspace data stream and which eventually transmits
whatever is routed through it?

Please tell me where I can start reading about it.

You mean like the universal tun/tap driver?

It's already in the Linux source, as well as other Unixen. I think it's
a project listed on Sourceforge too. OpenVPN is at least one project
which uses tun/tap.
