Virtual Network Adapter Software ?

Problem :

When VPN-ing to my work (Timestep client) , the NIC is "blocked" for any
other traffic.

Currently this (and a few related topics) are solved by running XP into
a VMWare VM. Those offers virtual network adapters "multiplexed" over
the physical NIC. I run VPN in the VM , other network access via the
real machine.

The clue is of course the virtual network adaptor. No need for the VM
otherwise. Does there exist any software with the same possibilities for
creating Virtual Network Adaptors ? I'm using XP.

Thanks.
