My system running on Redhat 7.1 (kernel 2.4.18)

I would like to know is there a open source s/w that allow Virtual IP
failover ?

Here is what I want to do. On my machine I've 2 NICs, physical IP for
NIC1 is 10.10.2.1 and another for NIC2 is 10.10.3.1. NIC1 is connected
to Switch1 and NIC2 is connected to Switch2. Refer diagram below :

+-My Redhat Machine-+
| |
| 10.10.2.1(NIC1) --+----------- Switch 1
| |
| 10.10.3.1(NIC2) --+----------- Switch 2
+-------------------+
Virtual IP 10.10.1.1

I want to assign a Virtual IP(10.10.1.1) to this Redhat Machine. The
virtual ip will be assigned to NIC1 when it starts up. In the event
that if Switch1 has died due to power failure or h/w failure, I want
the virtual ip(10.10.1.1) to be removed from NIC1 and be assigned to
NIC2.

Is there an open source s/w to do this for my OS platform ? May I know
the name. Thank you.

Pretty old kernel, with dozens of bugs/security problems, better
upgrade asap.

Should be possible using bonding failover/load balancing, just
take a look at /usr/src/linux/Documentation/networking/bonding.txt
(needs kernel sources installed), just make sure your network
equipment supports bonding, might need configuration.

Good luck

Remove +SIGNS and www. if you expect an answer, sorry for

Some interesting reading here:
