Virginmedia Talk Evenings and Weekend.

I'm currently with Virgin for broadband, at £18 per month, and yes, the
service is not too bad, the worst part is getting a human to talk to if
there's a problem. Anyway, I recently got a letter for the above service
offering broadband as at present plus free evening and weekend phone calls
for a total of £7.50 per month for three months and then £15 per month after
that, which is £3 less than I'm paying at present. I've read and re-read
the details and yet wonder if there's some obvious catch to this- it sounds
too good to be true. Anybody with any experience of this?

You don't say whether you are on cable or ADSL. If the latter I suspect
you will still have to pay the line rental on top of the Virgin service.
If you are on cable you may be charged £11 for the telephone line, in
fact for £30 a month you can get TV, phone, and broadband.

If you want an additional line why not go VoIP? The Virgin system
handles it quite well, especially if you have cable.

Go digging for the offer they have sent you on their web site. Also
don't forget that Virgin make a 9p connection charge for most calls -
including I think for calls for which they make no time charge (free?)

If you register with 18185 and are prepared to dial that company's access
number ahead of each real call you make from a VM phone, then (as my last
month's itemised VM phone bill shows) VM charge nothing at all for the calls
(because in essence they're all 0800 ones).

Firstly it's 7p. Secondly it does /not/ apply to any "unlimited" calls (ie
01/02/03).

or get a dialler box to make sure the wife and kids use the 18185
service as well....
