"received a phone call this morning from someone claiming to be from
Virgin
Media. She asked me to confirm who I was by telling her my password and
got
a little shirty when I refused unless she could prove to me she was from
Virgin Media.

For the record, I *never* give out a password over the phone in an
incoming
call."

This was sposed to have been reviewed and stopped well over a year ago
now.
It's still goin on, after many concerns and complaints put to, who was
then 'blueyonder' at the time.

It is wide open to abuse and fraud in the way that you cud phone anyone
you know that is on Virgin Media, tell them you are Virgin Media, and
proceed to ask them their password, what services they have, what was
the amount on their last bill.

This is all the information needed to commit fraud on the account/s in
question.
Nobody is to know that you are not from Virgin Media, as far as the
'customer' knows, you are the one who gets shirty for showin any sign of
bein suspicious when asked for your password by a witheld phone number.

You have to watch this with Virgin.

I may be wrong as they may have changed things but I believe that one
can log in to ones Virgin BB using anyones username and password (well
anyone with a Virgin BB account).

Therefore anyone with a low limit account could use someone elses for
big downloads.

Quite rightly - NEVER trust anyone who 'cold calls'

Mike

I thought you weren't with VM anymore, Gonz?

The only reason I mention this is because your post is a direct,
word-for-word copy of one I saw just now in their feedback newsgroup.

So what's going on then, Gonz?

For the record, I do agree with your sentiments though.

How can this be on cable you do not put in any user names or passwords
to connect the modem the modem comes pre programed with the
information .
>Quite rightly - NEVER trust anyone who 'cold calls'

Yes he did. Which is why I immediately cancelled my post, when I realised my
mistake.
