Virgin media cable TV

I am being pestered by Virgin Media to upgrade from an analogue service to a
digital service.

I am concerned that if I did upgrade I wouldn't be able to -
set the video timer to record programmes whilst I am out
view one channel whilst recording from another
Am I right in being concerned or just over cautious?

If I wont be able to do these two things just how do I get around the
problem?

Have you asked them?

Yes and I'm told there's no problem but I've also heard that there may be a
problem. Call centre jockeys are prone to tell you what they think is
correct / what you want to hear and it would be too late to correct errors
after changing. In short I just don't trust them. Comments on an NG from
someoneme who may have experienced the problem would be much more usefull
dependable and reliable.

Might be worth posting this in the Blueyonder.support.digital.TV
newsgroup (I assume you have access as you are an existing customer)IMHO
they tend to be more technically proficient than most.

Don't know about the vanilla set top box but I've just got a V+ and it
has 2 tuners so can record 2 programmes while you watch another, the
downside is it costs a tenner a month if you have the top TV package.

I believe (for now) the analogue channels would still be
sent alongside the digital ones e.g.:

This is ex-NTL, don't know if Telewest areas were different.

Not all boxes have a pass-through device. You might need to
split the feed directly to the VCR, which should be able to
tune into around 8 unscrambled channels.

No. Switching to a digital service will not change your ability to do
any of those things.

terrestrial channels but have to switch to 'cable' to record from any of the
cable channels. This means that should I want to record from cable I could
only record from the one channel. This is why I'm concerned that all the
terrestrial and all the cable channels will be lumped into one and that I
will not be able to choose to record this from BBC1 that from BBC2 and
something from ITV1 etc

I also have a Topfield PVR which has duel tuners (that's 2) where I can
record two programmes and watch a third so I don't think three tuners
are compulsory :-)

I doubt it, it's connected to the Virgin Mediocre cable network, Virgin
have got a spat on with $ky so don't have any of their channels any
more.
