Virgin with DLink DSL-604T

Trying to help a neighbour. (Really must stop doing this :-) ) He has
aquired the above and wants to replace the supplied USB thingy.

After a couple of hours messing around last night I got it such that
the log file showed:

Jan 1 01:04:40> pppd 2.4.1 started by root, uid 0
Jan 1 01:04:40> Connect: ppp0 {--}
Jan 1 01:05:10> PPPoA Connect with IP Address 81.107.193.159
Jan 1 01:05:10> PPPoA Connection Successfully Established
Jan 1 01:05:10> PPPoA Connect with Gateway IP Address: 194.145.148.4
Jan 1 01:05:10> WAN IP address 81.107.193.159
Jan 1 01:05:10> WAN gateway 194.145.148.4
Jan 1 01:05:10> primary DNS address 194.168.4.100
Jan 1 01:05:10> secondary DNS address 194.168.8.100

OK I know the date is not setup right yet.

Now I can ping 81.107.193.159 which is not that odd as it is the WAN
side of the modem. I can also ping 194.145.148.4 but anything else
including the DNS servers just time out. This was using my laptop BTW
not his box which of course still thinks it is going out over USB -
That will be the next fun and games once I get the connection up.

An error message might be a nice touch :-)

Just off to Google some more but if anyone has a bright idea I would
be grateful.

Firewall ?

i used to use the same modem, you must have the firewall turned ON on the
router to access sites.

Which makes turning it OFF a bit pointless :-) Will pass that on,
