Came across it by chance here .....

http://www.free-codecs.com/VDownloader_download.htm

I've no idea if the ad will be the same when you load the page. Smacks of
desparation (or something). I wonder what customers paying full whack would
think ?

It smacks of the usual marketing stuff. You think VM are the only ISP
offering cheap startup deals? Get real.

Same as we always think - sigh, is it worth facing retentions to see
if I can get the same deal, can I be ar*ed spending 2 hours on the
phone....

Yeh but they probably don't say that this is the connection speed to the
exchange. Most of the time, you will never actually reach 100k on their
network

I actually tried a friend's 2Mbps connection on my cable. I borrowed his NTL
modem and plugged it in here. The performance wasn't to bad actually. Trouble
was, when I tried the 4Mbps it was barely any better and sometimes seemed worse.

Is it worth phoning retentions who will tie you into another 12 month
contract of a service with a very bleak future?

I think not!
