Oh dear. Here we go again. I'm not 100% certain of the situation wrt the STM
on ADSL but you might want to investigate further before commenting. I know
I will, so I get the facts right.

Full details here:
http://www.virgin.net/allyours/faqs/....html#heaviest

There's no actual figures mentioned though. The upside is that the service
isn't hard-capped so you will still be able to download lots of stuff; just
not as quick.

In the interests of clarity - I hold no brief for Virgin - this is what it
says on their website under "unlimited":

"Virgin Broadband offers unlimited usage, which is great if you like to
download music and movies or just don't want to worry about monthly
allowances or caps. However, if you download a lot, you need to know that we
operate an Acceptable Use Policy, please visit our FAQs to find out more."

There's planty of detail if you click on the links including ...............

" For the small number of customers who are in the top 5% of heaviest users, our
traffic management solution will temporarily set download speeds to no lower
than 512Kbit/s. This limit is applied daily, 4pm until midnight, for 1 week."

Yet they describe the service as having ........
Unlimited° downloads

Unlimited only at 512kbps it seems. I think Gonz's complaint is valid this time.

The service is unlimited (as usual in this sense, I hasten to add!) in that
your ability to download will never actually stop *dead*.

It's that contentious grey area again ;-)

Riiight, and of course Virgin are the only ones that do that :-/

Plus it's only 4-12am. Okay, that might be 'prime-time' but doesn't stop you
scheduling downloads outside this period.

It is 'prime time' it's when a vast majority of their customers want to
use the service they signed up for, and what Virgin are takin their
money for.

"scheduling downloads outside this period"
I hate this theory...
Virgin Media, the ISP where you have to get everything together and let
it download while the country is asleep.
They'll let you browse Google and read your emails at all other times,
no sweat at all.
