I have one of these and am presently using it for ISDN only. We get BB
from BT next month (fingers crossed).

Am I correct in thinking that:
I need a modem
Modem will plug into the WAN port of the Draytek
The fact that the Draytek mentions only PPPoE (and not PPPoA) is
irrelevant because I will set up the modem using its own http/Telnet
setup

If so - then any recommendations for a suitable modem please.
Do they normally come with lead to connect to BT socket and router?

From what I can tell this is a wireless router with only an ISDN2 WAN
interface. Is that correct?

I am not clear how the modem will connect to that WAN port. I may be
wrong but I thought that WAN port is only for ISDN2.

If your current set-up works well, why not stick with a Vigor and
replace your current one with something like a 2600 with ADSL & ISDN
ports, then when your ADSL fails everything will still work.

Fair point Martin. But I think there's a cost difference of at least
£100. I think that my 2200 will detect when the WAN fails and will do
the ISDN Dial up.

As I understand it, the WAN port is an ethernet port for connecting to
a (cable) modem. The ISDN is separate and can be set up so that it
dials on demand if the WAN fails.

At the back I have:-
4 x router ethernet ports (labelled P1 to P4 - they work fine)
1 x ISDN connection (connects to my Business highway box)
1 x WAN port (not being used ta the moment)

Documentation (that I have) is a bit woeful and seems to be for an
older version (e.g. it mentions having to put a PCMCIA card into the
back of the unit to get Wireless - that is untrue!).

I am sure I was once sent two of this model in error - and the cable
modem socket could not be used with ADSL, at least that was what I was
told. That info. could be wrong. However have a look at the Draytek
support forum - perhaps it will work.

Thanks.
In the meantime I've had a reply from Draytek support:-
"Yes that's correct. The 2200Wplus would need to be connected to an
ADSL router/model that provides an ethernet output."

I think that one can maybe plug a *cable* modem into the WAN port and
use the router to set it all up (using PPTP tunnelling - which I don't
really understand) .

I did a few searches on the Draytek forum earlier today and couldn't
see anything.
I'll probably post there tomorrow if I don't get anywhere here.

you need an Ethernet ADSL modem, and some patience. Read the reviews
of such beasts at adslguide, for example
http://www.adslguide.org.uk/hardware...oline-6000.asp

these devices are basically a kludge to get ADSL onto the ethernet
port so it looks like a cable modem and passes the extenral IP
address, as a result it may not work with every ethernet modem /
router combo. I recommend downloading the altest manuals of both boxes
and working through it. Asking the modem suppliers support about
compatibility may help.

another one is the X-modem
http://www.adslnation.com/products/xmodem-ce.php

if all else fails by a bog standard ADSL router like a Zoom X3 and
connect it to a LAN port of what you have now. A sort of back door
entry. You may be able to use one on your WAN port providing you can
turn off the DHCP of one of the two boxes and the Vigor doesn't want
to see an external IP address.

true

The information on the web site is somewhat sparse, isn't it.

I'm not familiar with that router, but looking at it, it seems to want
to plug the WAN port into a cable modem, firewall or something similar.
I've never come across anything like a cable modem for ADSL though. I'm
sure someone does something that'll work, even if it is a cludge.

Sorry mate, I always stick with a 2600 for everone I work with, that way
I know I won't have any problems with the beast.
