Vigor 2600g / ZA Pro Problem

I just set up a Draytek Vigor 2600g router, and everything works fine.
Except...

I intermittently find myself unable to reach my main mail server, either by
POP3 or webmail. ZoneAlarm Pro appears to be the culprit: if I shut it down,
I can access the mail server without any problem. If I then restart the
machine and allow ZA to reload, I can still access the mail server - but
simply rebooting without shutting down ZA does not work. I don't have this
problem with other mail accounts on different servers.

The problem seems to occur whenever the router makes a fresh ADSL
connection, though not *only* then - it is diffficult to find the pattern. I
didn't have this problem with my previous router (D-Link DSL-504), so I
guess it's some weird interaction between ZA and the Vigor, but I'm not
familiar enough with firewall technicalities to know how to narrow it down.
The router is presently set up with factory defaults for security.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Have you installed the latest firmware for the Vigor?

The first release was unreliable and wouldd keep losing the Internet
connection.

Why have two firewalls running the one on the router is more
than enough.

True, I guess it is belt and braces. Either way, I'd be curious to know the
cause of the problem.

Ok - I'm running the latest firmware and latest ZoneAlarm and it's running
well.

Sorry I can't help.

I only use the free version of ZA - and it works fine for me. Sounds like
now's the time to get to grips with the finer details of firewall tuning!

Turn off ZA and reply on the firewall in your router - it's excellent. To
convince yourself, run some of the tests at dslreports, grc, hackerwhacker and
the host of other security websites.....
