view wireless networks tab

i recently reinstalled windows XP ( update) and after if i click on view
wireless networks tab it is grayed. Even the advanced button is grayed.
Before it showed all
the avialable networks. While i can still connect to a wireless network by
clicking on the wireless adapter itself, selecting the network tab then
manually scaning for avialable networks, i am sure i have a setting wrong.

any ideas?
